FAQs

How do I access the building?

61 Greenpoint Ave, Brooklyn NY 11222

When you arrive at the building (also known as the Pencil Factory), you will find a keypad box next to the door. Enter 035 and you will be buzzed into the building. Once inside, take the elevator to the third floor and walk down the hall to unit 305A. After booking your session, you will automatically be sent an email with instructions + a special code to access the studio door.

Which direction do the windows face?

Our windows are south facing and on the third floor of our building. This means lighting is brightest from 9 am to around 4pm, depending on the time of year. Direct sunlight on a sunny day is typically shining through constantly. Given that the floors and walls are painted white, it gets very bright in the room.

What equipment do you have?

You can see our full equipment and prop list by referring to the equipment tab on our site. We will always be updating any new arrivals. All equipment and props are included in your session. If you wish to use more than one pull of paper, it is an extra $15 per pull.

Can I host an event / pop-up in the space?

Events and pop-ups are welcome in our space, provided that it is capped at 50 people maximum. Music must be kept at a reasonable volume. We ask that you please be extra courteous of the couch as it is extremely old and prone to wear. No food, drink, sharp heels near or on it. You will be required to pay a fee if there are considerable damages done to furniture, props or equipment. You will also be responsible for cleaning up the studio and leaving it in its original state when your event is over. Please email us at hello@takespacebk.com if you wish to host an event / pop-up.

Where is the couch from?

Our statement couch was designed by Swiss designer Ubald Klug in the early 1970s. A true innovator, Klug presented the furniture maker de Sede with a groundbreaking idea – a sofa that resembled a pile of earth. Not every critic was smitten: The New Yorker called it “a monstrous thing.” Dubbed Terrazza, Klug’s sofa is composed of seven graduated leather-wrapped cushions set on a rectangular base. Though Klug isn’t exactly a household name, a persistent nostalgia for disco days has kept his most famous creation relevant.

What furniture can I move?

Please do not move the couch without contacting us first for special assistance. It is a fragile, vintage, heavy item that will most definitely scratch the floors and potentially damage the leather. However, you can move all chairs, props, and small items around however you please. Be sure to place things back where you found them, we greatly appreciate it!

How quiet is the space?

Though our space is generally pretty quiet, the studio is not sound proofed so you may hear noises from the outside street or from nearby tenants in the building. We’ve had interviews and videos filmed in the studio before with no complaints. If absolute pin-drop silence is a necessity for your session, this may not be the right space for your needs.

Where’s the bathroom and trash bins?

The bathroom is down the hall on the left hand side. Trash bins are located in the hall as well with recycling instructions. Please clear all trash, wrappers and food after your session is complete.
